Ciné-Real

Ciné-Real is the only film club in the UK to exclusively play films in 16mm format. The film night is run by Director Liam Saint-Pierre and Projectionist, Ümit Mesut, of Ümit & son.

Why 16mm? There's something about the feel of analog that you just don’t get with digital. It’s like the difference between sitting in front of an open fire compared to a radiator. They chose 16mm over 35mm as it was easier to get the prints. There are also lots on super 8mm, but they’re often abridged and come on 8 reels!

Cine-real presents: Jaws

When a young woman is killed by a great white shark off the coast of Amity Island, local police chief Martin Brody seeks to close the beaches and protect the town. Facing pressure from local officials worried about the tourist season, Brody joins forces with marine biologist Matt Hooper and seasoned shark hunter Quint to hunt down the deadly predator. Steven Spielberg’s landmark thriller became the first summer blockbuster and remains one of cinema’s most enduring classics. Ciné-Real is one of the only film clubs in the UK to exclusively play films from original 16mm prints. They are a non-profit organisation which aims to unite film makers and enthusiasts in their appreciation of classic film.
