Screenings start at 11am, with the cafe opening from 10am for all ticket-holders to grab a free tea and biscuit.

Silver Screenings: The Shop Around The Corner [1940]

The Castle Cinema presents: Silver Screenings! A free programme of Christmas films for Hackney residents aged 55+. First up we have Christmas Classic - The Shop Around The Corner! Alfred Kralik (James Stewart) and Klara Novak (Margaret Sullavan) are employees at Matuschek and Company, a general store in Budapest. Klara and Alfred are constantly at odds with each other, butting heads and disagreeing on almost everything. Both are enamored of their respective pen pals, who serve as welcome distractions in their lives. Little do they know, they are each the other's pen pal and, despite outward differences, have unwittingly fallen in love through their letters. Cafe open from 10am

The Castle Cinema presents: Silver Screenings! A free programme of Christmas films for Hackney residents aged 55+. Next up we have Christmas Classic - Scrooge (1951) Often thought of as the most faithful film version of the classic Dickens tale A Christmas Carol. Ebenezer Scrooge, a curmudgeonly, miserly businessman, has no time for sentimentality and largely views Christmas as a waste of time. However, this Christmas Eve, he will be visited by three spirits who will show him the error of his ways. Cafe open from 10am

The Castle Cinema presents: Silver Screenings! A free programme of Christmas films for Hackney residents aged 55+. Next up we have Christmas Classic - White Christmas (1954) Two army buddies turned song-and-dance men team up with a pair of talented sisters after the war. When they discover the sisters are headed to a Vermont inn owned by the men’s former commanding officer, the group follows - only to find the place struggling to stay afloat. Together, they hatch a plan to put on a dazzling Christmas show to save the inn and spread some holiday cheer. Cafe open from 10am

The Castle Cinema presents: Silver Screenings! A free programme of Christmas films for Hackney residents aged 55+. On Boxing Day, we have Christmas Classic - Bell, Book & Candle (1958) Gillian, a chic modern-day witch living in New York, can have any man she wants - with a little magic. When she sets her sights on her charming neighbor Henderson (partly to spite his snobbish fiancée), she casts a love spell on him. But when real feelings begin to stir, Gillian faces a dilemma: can a witch who doesn’t believe in love risk losing her powers for it? Cafe open from 10am
