Wolfwalkers - Trans Awareness Programme 2026

In a time of superstition and magic, a young apprentice hunter and her father travel to 17th-century Ireland to help wipe out the last remaining wolf pack. Everything changes when she meets a free-spirited girl from a mysterious tribe rumored to transform into wolves while sleeping, pulling her into an enchanted world that forces her to question everything her father stands for. Wolfwalkers forms a uniquely powerful addition to our Trans Awareness Programme through its rich, metaphorical resonance with the trans experience. While framed as a fantastical folklore tale, its exploration of living a double life, the secret metamorphosis into one's true form, and the painful pressure to conform to strict social expectations deeply mirrors the journey of gender realization and transition. By celebrating body autonomy, wild self-acceptance, and the courage to step outside prescribed binary roles, the film offers a beautifully accessible, allegorical space to explore themes of trans identity, bodily freedom, and unconditional love. Orlando: My Political Biography - Trans Awareness Programme 2026

Virginia Woolf’s 1928 classic Orlando follows a centuries-spanning nobleman who awakens one morning as a woman. Nearly a century later, philosopher and director Paul B. Preciado asserts that fiction has become reality: Orlando’s story is the blueprint for modern trans and non-binary existence. Constructed through a vibrant chorus of contemporary trans and non-binary voices - our new 'Orlandos' - this dazzling feature debut seamlessly blends literary essay, documentary, and music video into a joyous celebration of identity. Orlando, My Political Biography forms a cornerstone of our Trans Awareness Programme precisely because of its revolutionary approach to representation. Rather than reducing the trans experience to a single narrative, medical trauma, or tragic spectacle, Preciado dismantles the traditional biography entirely - handing Woolf’s immortal protagonist over to a diverse collective of real trans lives. In doing so, the film reframes trans history as a living, poetic archive of liberation, showing how shedding the straitjacket of a single identity opens us up to boundless social and political possibilities. Ponyboi - Trans Awareness Programme 2026

Unfolding over the course of a high-stakes Valentine’s Day in New Jersey, Ponyboi follows a young intersex sex worker forced to run for his life from the mob when a drug deal goes catastrophic, driving him straight into a confrontation with his past. This gritty neo-noir thriller blends sleek, neon-drenched crime drama with a deeply tender story of self-discovery, survival, and belonging. Ponyboi forms a vital part of our Trans Awareness Programme as a groundbreaking milestone for gender-expansive cinema. Written by and starring intersex activist River Gallo, it stands as the first narrative feature film created by and centered on an intersex person. Rather than treating intersex identity as a medical anomaly or a punchline, Ponyboi offers rare, authentic visibility—framing intersex experience with agency, swagger, and fierce humanity. Queens of the Dead - Trans Awareness Programme 2026

When a zombie outbreak threatens a Brooklyn drag show, a chaotic crew of drag queens, club kids, and frenemies must set aside their backstage drama. Banding together to survive, they turn their distinct talents, high-octane camp, and sharp wits into deadly weapons against the hungry undead. Queens of the Dead forms a bold, riotous addition to our Trans Awareness Programme by placing trans, non-binary, and queer performers squarely at the center of horror heroism. Directed by Tina Romero—who injects fresh queer energy into her father George A. Romero's iconic genre legacy—the film rejects the tired trope of trans and drag figures as tragic victims or sensationalized punchlines. Instead, it celebrates radical queer joy, community solidarity, and the unapologetic power of trans and gender-nonconforming artists fighting back together—proving that in times of crisis, high camp and fierce resilience are ultimate survival tools.
