Word Space x Castle Cinema: Projections - Poems About the Movies

Join us for the launch of our cinema-inspired poetry zine, Projections!

Cinema gives us shared language, private escapes, collective gasps. From queerness to grandmothers, from picture palaces to disordered flashbacks. This is cinema through poetry's lens.

This community-focused evening celebrates poetry for film lovers and poetry lovers alike. All pieces are inspired by the magic of cinema and grown organically at Castle Cinema's weekly Sunday Word Space poetry workshops.

The evening will include live performances from selected artists, and copies of the poetry zine will be available to purchase on the night.

About Projections

Projections is a series of love letters to cinema - the characters that speak as if directly to us, the scores that cut grooves so deep they never leave, those first experiences of sitting in the dark and being transported far, far away.

This unique collection of poems inspired by all things cinematic comes from Word Space in collaboration with The Castle Cinema showcasing vibrant, poetic tributes to the silver screen. Dorothy is lost in an unwelcome, divided land, an intimacy is taken apart and put back together again by La Naissance des Pieuvres, parents look down at their hands during steamy scenes, Jean-Claude Van Damme roundhouse kicks William Carlos Williams, John Hurt's thorax bursts open, a castaway is prevented from befriending a volleyball by a bureaucratic sign, and teenagers finding their feet use the bright lights as a portal to a thousand possible futures.
